Creatine is a nutrient that is naturally found in our bodies. It is made from a combination of three amino acids: arginine, glycine, and methionine and helps provide the energy our muscles require to move, particularly movements which are quick and explosive in nature. When your muscles contract, the initial fuel for this movement is a compound called ATP (adenosine triphosphate). This energy is created when ATP releases one of its phosphate molecules thereby becoming ADP (adenosine diphosphate). ATP reserves typically last only a few seconds at which time creatine phosphate begins providing the necessary phosphate molecules. This allows ADP to once become ATP, allowing the energy cycle to continue.
