Joe Silzer Training Tips

About Me

Hi, my name is Joe Silzer. I'm a 29 year old lifelong Chicagoan. I've been a full-time union electrician since I graduated from Lewis University back in 1997. I've been married to my beautiful wife Danielle for 3 1/2 years, and we have 2 beautiful children, Jacob and Kyle.

The Journey Begins

Best Price Nutrition has helped me combine proper supplementation with my training and diet to achieve the following titles thus far:

The 1997 Powerhouse Classic was my 1st contest. It was a non-tested show, so let's just say that I was competing against guys who weren't exactly all-natural like I was. However, through a smart training program, proper supplementation, and a strict diet, I placed 1st in the middleweight class.

The very next week I took 1st in the middleweight class and 1st overall in the 1997 Natural Mr. Illinois.

Climbing the Ladder

After battling injuries, I competed in 4 more contests, most notably when I took 1st overall in the 2002 Natural North America. Last summer I finished 2nd place in the middleweight division of 2002 Team Universe, where I was told that I had the most potential of all the competitors.

One of the biggest challenges for any top-level competitor is to maintain size and thickness while still keeping my metabolism in a thermogenic state. Right now I'm going heavy with the following schedule:

Monday: Chest & Biceps
Tuesday: Quads
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: Shoulders & triceps
Friday: Off
Saturday: Back & Calves
Sunday: Off

Supplements Are Crucial

Because I work full-time and I make my family my top priority, my supplements are the key to achieving a lean and muscular physique. This is especially true because like most of you, I am trying to do this the natural way, meaning I do NOT take, nor have I ever taken, anabolic steroids. My health and my pride are more important to me than whoring myself to the top by cheating with drugs. Below you will find the supplements that I use to reach my God-given potential.

Nature's Best Isopure Protein
After I work out I always take Isopure Protein from Natures Best. I get the 8 lb container because it's more cost effective. I also take Isopure in the morning with one cup of oatmeal as my first meal, and another time during the day before my workout. Isopure is different because it has whey ISOLATE in it, not whey concentrate. This is important because whey ISOLATE absorbs more efficiently than whey concentrate. It definitely contributes to my muscle recovery and muscle growth.

Kaizen Creatine Transport
Since I am look to add size right now creatine is a big part of my supplement program. The best creatine I've ever used is Kaizen Creatine Transport. No creatine has ever aided my strength and pump like this brand of creatine has. I take it both before and after my workouts.

SNI Glutamine Peptide
Another supplement I never cycle out of is Glutamine Peptide from SNI. This is the most stabilized and most absorbable form of L-Glutamine, the most abundant free-form amino acid found naturally in the body.

Dorian Yates Aproved ProPeptide
Dorian Yates Approved ProPeptide is an absolutely outstanding night time protein I just learned about. I take it before I go to bed. It's a 7-hour time released protein that allows my natural growth hormone production to begin my muscle growth and activate my metabolism. It has micellar casein, whey isolate and egg albumin along with acidophilus and bifidus for intestinal absorption. My muscles have never been so full and pumped. I'm glad I discovered this ProPeptide stuff.

Barlean's Flaxseed Oil
I also take flax oil from Barlean's both before I go to bed and first thing in the mourning. This insures protein synthesizes, keeps my metabolism going, and keeps my immune system going strong.

Solaray Spectro 3
Everybody who exercises or is active should also take a good multi-vitamin. The best I've seen is Spectro 3 from Solaray. It is 100% natural and gives me a whole food base along with the vitamins and minerals to keep me strong and aid my energy.
