What are Phytoceramides?

Ceramides play a central role in preserving healthy-looking skin. They are an important lipid component of the skin’s membrane, where they provide protection from the elements and lock in moisture. In fact, they make up 35%-40% of the binding matrix that maintains moisture balance and protects the skin’s surface. The problem is that the body’s production of ceramides declines with age.

  • These are the same ceramides that younger skin uses to keep it's appearance
  • Has been used for centuries as a natural moisturizer
  • Because you don't get enough of them in your diet, a supplement can help

    • what is the difference between Life Extension brand's 'Skin Restoring Ceramides" and Life Extension brand's 'Skin Restoring Phytoceramides"? because the brand carries both but it is much more difficult to find the Phytoceramides vs the Ceramides.

      Thank you.
      Ashley
    • The one we carry with Phytoceramides are plant based, which Dr. Oz recommended on his show.
  • From Mike at Nov/08/2012 05:November PM
    • Which of the plant based ones are gluten free?
    • This supplement is plant based. but it is not gluten free.
  • From lahela510 at Nov/11/2012 08:November AM
    • Can this be taken on an empty stomach or should this be taken with food? Also does it make a difference what time it is taken?

      Your reply is much appreciated.

      Thank you.
    • According to the manufacturer, take one liquid capsule daily with food, so you shouldn't take o an empty stomach. It doesn't look like it matters when you take it throughout the day though, as long as it's with food.
  • From easton at Nov/19/2012 09:November AM
    • how large are the pills? i have trouble swallowing extra large ones. thanks
    • They are smaller to regular size pills. We have had no one complain about them being "horse pills" so you should be safe!
  • From Georgia at Dec/18/2012 02:December PM
    • They said it would coast 10 dollers per month
    • We are unsure where Dr. Oz came up with this number. $10 is even way under our cost for this phytoceramide supplement.
  • From Mary at Jan/13/2013 11:January AM
    • Dr. Oz recommends taking one capsule every day for 4 weeks, does that mean to discontinue taking after that or can it be taken long term?
    • This may be taken long term but Dr. Oz’s suggestion is to use it in 4 week cycles.
  • From EMILY at Feb/27/2013 04:February PM
    • Can you recommend a gluten free, plant-based supplement substitute?
    • Right now we don't have any alternative that is Gluten-Free...sorry!
  • From chris at Mar/07/2013 09:March AM
    • do you just take this for eight weeks and your all done ?
    • Dr. Oz recommended taking it for at least 8 weeks to see your results and then you can continue if you are liking the results of taking it.
  • From S.Style at Apr/30/2013 11:April AM
    • I am current taking Biotin Forte 5mg, BioSil (hair, skin, nails), Multivitamins and Vitamin D3 1000IU and would like to know if it's safe to take Phyoceramides along with all these supplements?? Please let me know ASAP.

      Thank you.
    • Yes, this combination of supplements and vitamins should be fine if you added the phytoceramides to it.

I was taking it to help the wrinkles in my arm that suddenly occurred when I didn't go to the gym while my husband was sick. I think it's really helping me. I'm going to continue to use it because it can't work just over night. Thank you! (Posted on Apr/04/2013)

Started using phytoceramides several months ago and my skin does seem to have a better appearance. However, I'm using it combination with a new skin cleansing regimen and I think both are responsible for my better looking skin. (Posted on Mar/28/2013)

I took the Lipowheat to improve antiaging on my skin. I only took it once a day with food, according to Dr. Oz's suggestion, but apparently taking it twice a day would be better for more effect. I didn't see any noticeable improvement on my skin. Another time I will try taking it twice a day to see if it works better. I have stopped taking it for now though cuz I am taking Arbonne's collagen pills (2 a day - taking at the same time once a day) for antiaging. They are more expensive, so unless I see good results in 2 months I'll probably switch back to the Lipowheat and try it twice a day. (Posted on Feb/28/2013)

I have noticed reduced fine lines and wrinkles with this particular supplement, though I have started a new skin care product at about the same time, so I am uncertain as to which product to attribute the changes. I will continue to use up what I have purchased, but my finances will determine whether or not I reorder. (Posted on Feb/26/2013)

My first order took quite some time to get to me, as it was a back-order and I understood that. I was
kept informed as to the progress of the shipment and I finally did receive it. My second order came to me very quickly and I am impressed with the service and the affordable costs of the products. (Posted on Jan/31/2013)
