Ballerina Farms Farmer Protein Review: From Their Barn to Your Blender
Ballerina Farms Farmer Protein Powder Review
If you spend any amount of time on social media you've likely scrolled past one of Hannah Nelleman's beautifully rustic videos. Many feel admiration and curiousity while she and the brand also gets a lot of hate online for being a "Trad Wife", but social media drama aside, in today's post we're going to be talking about and reviewing her Farmer Protein, a unique protein powder which blends nutrition, integrity and a touch of farm magic.
About Ballerina Farm
Ballerina Farm is nestled in the mountain valley of Kamas Utah and the farm is run by Hannah and Daniel Nelleman, a husband and wife team with a passion for wholesome food and family. Hanna is a former Juilliard trained ballerina and Miss New York City and traded her dance shoes for muck boots and now shares a life on the farm with her husband and children.
The couple together has built Ballerina Farm into a lifestyle brand which celebrates simplicity, connection and nourishment straight from the source. Ranging from sourdough to farm fresh meat and dairy, every product reflects their mission of quality, transparency and the beauty of doing things the old way.
What's the Deal with Farmer Protein?
Farmer Protein is Ballerina Farm's answer to overprocessed and artificial tasting prtoein powders. Each scoop contains 24 grams of protein which includes...
- Whey Protein - Fast digesting complete protein for muscle building and recovery
- Collagen Peptides - For skin, gut support, joints and connective tissues
- Hemp Protein - Plant based prtoein rich on omega fatty acids
- Calf First Bovine Colostrum - Considered "Liquid Gold" of the formula and ethically collected
- Prebiotic Fiber - Nourishes gut health and digestion
Farmer Protein comes in a variety of flavors including Creamy Chocolate, Vanilla Bean, Maple Cinnamon, and Strawberry Creme and ranges from 25-30 servings per bag depending upon flavor and each bag is third party tested for purity.
What Makes Farmer Protein Unique?
While most sports nutrition brands carry whey protein, whey protein isolates, caseins and various blends, Farmer Protein has somewhat of a unique approach blending whey protein with hemp protein a plant based protein and collagen, but what really makes this protein stand out is the colostrum which currently is a very popular ingredient getting a lot of attention and its important to note the brand ethically sources this colostrum using a calf first approach. Many gym goers will also appreciate that the brand doesn't use artificial flavors or sweeteners and uses Stevia and Monk Fruit to sweeten the protein which is a smart approach as more and more consumers are opting to avoid the artificial sweeteners like sucralose and others.
My Honest Review: Taste, Texture and Overall Opinion
After hearing all the hype about Ballerina Farm's wholesome products I decided to give them a try and opted for the Strawberry Creme flavor. Overall I was pretty impressed, it's not overly sweet or chalky like a lot of protein powders and it doesn't contain that stevia aftertaste some naturally sweetened products do. It tastes creamy and natural and more like a strawberry milkshake than a supplement. Now let's be honest, chemicals for whatever reason taste good, you're not going to get that RYSE Jet Puffed Marshmallow taste from a naturally flavored and sweetened prdouct but it tastes great, has a solid texture and is worth the tradeoff.
The texture is good, it mixes easily, isn't chalky and doesn't have that gritty texture some plant based proteins or collagen heavy blends can have. I really enjoyed that Farmer Protein contains colostrum which supports immune health, gut function and post workout recovery, not something I've seen in a protein powder before.
I've been taking Farmer Protein post workout for a couple weeks as well as for a quick breakfast when short on time and I enjoy that I'm getting real nutrient dense protein from ingredients that were actually cared for and not just sourced.
