So yesterday I was sent the new weight loss powder from Formutech Nutrition. I tend to think of myself as a stimulant junkie, and if I listen to John and Glenn a little more often than I should, maybe I wouldn't need so many stimulants to get me going each day. So...I jumped at the chance to try this new "Super Thermogenic Powder" as Formutech calls it. This new product is called Level II.
What is Level II?
They are marketing this product as a weight loss powder, not a pre-workout, though you can use it for both...I mean I did. They claim no jitters, no crash and no appetite while on it. They recommend taking it upon waking and just one scoop. They say not to take it too late during the day. I am guessing that's it's because of the heavy stimulants, common with any fat burner or pre-workout. It comes in a grape flavor, or at least that is what I was sent. Not sure at this time if it's available in any other flavors. They claim it's formulated to help you lose weight, increase your energy and enhance your mood.
So what ingredients are in Level II? It contains 40mg of Vitamin B3, 10mg of Vitamin B6 and a properietary blend which they call the Level II Super Thermo Powder Blend:
- Green Coffee Bean Extract (50% Cholorgenic Acid)
- Evodiae Fructus (Evodiamine)
- N-Acetyl Tyrosine
- 5-Hydroxytryptophan (Griffonia Simplicifolia)
- Higenamine HCl
- Ginseng Root
- Rauwolfia Vomitoria Root Extract (std. min. 90% Alpha-Yohimbine)
Now I am not going to get into all the ingredients. If you want that, request it on our Youtube Channel for John and Glenn. Because this blend is 890mg total, I really don't know how much of each ingredient there is. But after taking it, I would say one serving/scoop has about 200mg of caffeine.
First of all when I opened up the bottle, I was thinking...really 50 servings in this thing? Then I saw the scooper. Pretty tiny, which means this stuff is ultra concentrated. It was about the size of a quarter round and 3 quarters stacked up high. Reminded me of the scopper of Ripped Cocktail by LeCheek Nutrition.
So I took it earlier this morning before the gym in place of my pre-workout. I didn't have any expectations of pumps or focus, just energy. That is what I am reviewing this product on. The taste was actually refreshing. Some companies can really mess up a grape flavor...and some do it well. If you like grape, try this or Athletic Edge Nutrition PreSurge. It was easy to drink, no clumping or trouble mixing. I took it about 30min before my workout on an empty stomach to really get the full effect.
I can say that I did get a really good energy boost out of it. It wasn't jittery, which I was scared about since I did this on an empty stomach. Try taking a strong pre-workout on an empty stomach and see what happens...jitters, shakes etc. This...nothing like that. It was very clean.
I am not really a morning person, especially when I wake up at 5am to hit the gym. After taking this product I actually talked to people today. It's really hard to if it was the product or me just not being used to going to the gym that often at 5am. But if anything, I wasn't in a bad mood. I was happy and glad to be lifting. So when your dieting, you tend to me in a bad mood, and if this can help keep you happy, that's a good thing for you and everyone around you.
5 hours later and still no crash whatsoever. I feel fine, I'm at work and not wanting to head to my car for a long nap. Sometimes when I take stimulants like 1,3 DMAA, 3-4 hours later I am out. One reason I make sure not to take that kind of stim in the mornings. Just at night.
Now I didn't get any side effects from taking this product, except one. Now I only took this once, so it could have been something else. Maybe waking up to early? Maybe it's colder outside. Maybe not totally used to working out in the morning. But I got the chills during every set I did. I didn't like it. I was more focused on the chillers/cold than on the lift. I talked to our resident expert here and he blamed the Higenamine HCl and Alpha-Yohimbine. I could see how this would be a good feeling when you are not-sweaty or at the gym, but I definitely didn't like it at the gym lifting. Everyone is different, so this could have just been my body not agreeing with an ingredient, or the fact that this should be used as a weight loss product and not a pre-workout supplement.
Review Final Thoughts
If you are looking for a fat burner and want something that tastes good, I would definitely give this a try. It's whole purpose is to help you lose weight, enhance your mood and drop the appetite. I definitely think it could work for you. If you have taken other products with Higenamine HCl and Alpha-Yohimbine and never had a problem, then ignore my side effects section, but if you also have problems with Higenamine HCl and Alpha-Yohimbine, this might not be the product for you.
