So, I’ve been away for awhile. Lots has transpired since I’ve last posted. Let’s get caught up — reacquainted. (And, if there’s any new readers here, hi. I’m Tim. I write for Best Price Nutrition. I know a little about a lot of stuff in this industry. Feel free to ask me any questions or just say hello down in the comments.)
-I’ve been readmitted to school to complete my exercise science degree. College somewhat bores me, but I’ve come to terms with the fact that it’s a necessary evil. Most of the stuff I know is self-taught, however. And some of the stuff they disseminate in college is dated, inaccurate, or even outright dross. I find this depends largely upon the professor.
-I’ve moved to Champaign, IL to live with my girlfriend and our daughter. Many of you may know Best Price ships out of Mokena, IL (~2 hours away from Champaign). Less office time for me should translate into more blog posts for you. Aren’t you excited?
-As a former collegiate athlete, I’m finally starting to embrace my “washed up” status; thus, I have my sights set on my first bodybuilding show sometime in 2011 (which is about the only athletic pursuit still on my menu of options besides recreational sports). I’m going to be posting some progress pics and training snapshots and dieting tableau along the way. Areas of priority for me are back thickness/rear delts, hamstrings, and upper chest.
-I’m thinking of doing more videos — anything from videos of actual training, or just more impromptu stuff in general. I’d love to get some feedback on that. Sound like a good idea? Anyone watch any of the current videos?
-I successfully brought my friend and client Chris into his second bodybuilding show shredded and bone dry (I do his diet plan). I can confidently say he was the hardest, “grainiest” dude on stage, and I take a lot of pride in that. He got a controversial second place to a competitor who may have had slightly more width, but I still think Chris should’ve edged him out on conditioning and overall symmetry. Here’s a pic from between pre-judging and the night show:
Chris and I are going back to the drawing board and we’re going to try and add some overall size everywhere this offseason. I’d like to see him get up to 260 this year (he’s 6’1). I had an awesome video interview with Chris — he’s a Best Price customer, too — but someone in Knoxville stole my Flip cam, which I’m still fuming about. We’ll get another one filmed ASAP. I’d be happy to keep you guys updated on his progress, too.
-Fat Gripz. These things are awesome for curling movements, and they also can instantly turn any bar into a fat bar. Well worth the purchase.
-Vibram Five Fingers. I’m really digging these right now. I won’t deadlift without them. Just follow the link, click around, learn about barefoot training. Also, read this post from Eric Cressey on when to implement barefoot training (and when not to).
-Primordial Performance Test Conversion Factor. This is my favorite natural test-booster to date; moreover, it actually has the research to back it up. And the price, (ahem) $22.99, is killer. (I’ll write this one up, if anyone wants. Let me know.)
-Tyson Grilled and Ready Chicken Breast Fillets. These are a lifesaver when you’re trying to eat healthy on-the-go; they’re pre-cooked. Just pop ‘em in the microwave. Three minutes and done.
That’s it, guys (and gals). That’s what’s new and exciting. Please comment down below — there were a lot of questions and thoughts and requests for feedback up there. I’d love to hear from you.
