John:
Hey, what is going on, Best Price Nutrition fam? John and Brad here today, and we're going to be taking a look at NutraBio's all new plant protein. I believe this one isn't even out yet, but we managed to get a couple samples of this. And while you were mixing everything up, I was taking a look. It looks like, maybe you can kind of touch on this in the video, but it looks like these sweeteners are very natural and wholesome. We've got a good amount of protein for a plant protein, which they sometimes tend to run a little bit less than the wheys and the others. And we've got some really interesting flavors. So excited to take a look at these today.

Brad:
Yeah, yeah. So the flavors that we got are snickerdoodle cookie, German chocolate cake, and then what's that one?

John:
Mochaccino mousse cake. You know, I notice there's some coffee in here. I was meaning to take a look and see if there's actually any caffeine in here or not.

Brad:
Yeah. So as of today, what is today? Today is the 28th. This stuff won't actually be out until February 5th, I believe. But we got sent sample units. We're pre-ordering everything. So come February 5th, we should have it. Or if not February 5th, maybe a couple days after, it should be live on the site. So we're going to do a little flavor review. We've got them all mixed up, and we're also going to go over the labels. So which one do you want to try first?

John:
Let's see. What's our options here?

Brad:
Do you want to go light to dark?

John:
Mousse cake. Yeah, let's go snickerdoodle.

Brad:
Okay. So snickerdoodle, here you go. They mix up really, really good, which is kind of rare for a plant protein. They smell awesome. And then just going down the line, 110 calories, two fat, 20 grams of protein and four grams of carb. Three of those are fiber, though, so really only one gram of carb. And then the good thing about NutraBio is that it's a totally open label. They tell you absolutely everything that's in there, even down to how much Stevia and flavoring and everything. So of natural flavor, it's 1.2 grams, 300 milligrams of salt, 220 milligrams of xanthan gum, 160 milligrams of monk fruit extract, which is kind of like Stevia. It's a natural sweetener. You've got 150 milligrams of cinnamon powder, and then 120 milligrams of Stevia leaf extract. So if you're someone who's vegan, plant-based, whatever, and you want the most organic, not fake product, this is probably it.

John:
And you know what I noticed, just to kind of throw it out there, the protein source is pea protein and whole brown rice protein.

Brad:
Oh yeah, I didn't see that. Yeah, it does break it down as to what they're using. So it's not just a pea protein. They do use a couple different sources, which is going to give you a better breakdown of the amino acids.

John:
And you know what? Not to distract from the topic at hand, but I am super, speaking on the topic of plant-based proteins, I'm super excited about the oatmeal cream pie [inaudible 00:02:36]. So you have to do that one soon.

Brad:
Yeah, yeah. That one's going to be awesome. So yeah, let's try this one.

John:
NutraBio, everything they put out, I love the flavors of their proteins, pre-workouts, everything. So I'm excited about this.

Brad:
For being naturally sweetened, that's really, really good.

John:
I agree. It's really thick.

Brad:
You don't taste the Stevia. We get a little bit of Stevia, but I shouldn't say cut it with monk fruit. I like monk fruit more, but those two together make kind of a naturally sweet taste. It doesn't taste bitter.

John:
I will say, maybe a little bit of graininess, but it's not unpleasant at all.

Brad:
For being pea, pea kind of gives you that gritty taste.

John:
Yeah, I like this. Like you said, I mean, it's not going to win the awards for best tasting protein of all time, but for as natural as it is and for being a plant-based protein, it's very good.

Brad:
Yeah. And as far as how it mixes up, I'll give that a 10. It's totally, it's as smooth as it can possibly be. The grit is like a different thing than the smooth. The grit's almost like a powder that you can kind of feel, but it's not clumpy or anything.

John:
Yeah. I thought that was very good. I think a lot of times I do my proteins with coconut milk instead of water, so I can see that being even smoother in the case here.

Brad:
Yeah, definitely. I like this one a lot. Yeah, it's really good.

John:
Yeah, I'm not even necessarily a huge snickerdoodle fan, but yeah, I thought that was good.

Brad:
Oh, I love snickerdoodles, love them. All right, so what's the next dark one? So we've got German chocolate cake, and then what's that one? These are both pretty dark.

John:
Mousse chocolate cake. Should we go with the German chocolate?

Brad:
Yeah. And then, just so you can take a look at this one, there's like, I don't know if you can see it on the [inaudible 00:04:16]. I don't know if I just didn't mix it up well, but it looks like there's bits of chocolate that are kind of streaming down the cup.

John:
There might even be bits of coconut in there, like a topping.

Brad:
Yeah.

John:
And you know what? I know you were a big fan of, what was it, Nutrex Research had the same flavor out, [crosstalk 00:04:32] plant-based protein. I know that was one of your favorite plant-based proteins, so I'm curious to see how this stacks up.

Brad:
Yeah. That is like the best tasting plant protein I've ever had, so. Oh, there's for sure coconut.

John:
Yeah, I thought I saw a couple pieces in there. It looks good. That's good.

Brad:
That is good. It's not as good as Nutrex is, but it is way up there on the plant protein scale. This one's definitely in the top five best plant proteins I've ever had. I think I like the snickerdoodle more, but this is still really good.

John:
You know what, I'm going to go the other way. I'm going to say this is less gritty. And I did catch a little bit of that like maybe pea protein aftertaste with the previous one. I feel like chocolate covers that up a lot better.

Brad:
I could see that.

John:
And then you get the little bits of coconut in here.

Brad:
I think I just like cinnamon more than I like chocolate coconut. I love coconut. But between these two, I just like the light cinnamon taste.

John:
I think I would actually probably buy a tub of this one.

Brad:
It is really good. I like it. They're both good.

John:
Okay, so I'm a fan of that one.

Brad:
I also like the way it looked, too. I like the chocolate things that kind of streamed down the cup, and it wasn't like not mixed. It was mixed up fine.

John:
Right, yeah. Yeah, that one was very tasty. And last but not least, we've got the mochaccino mousse cake. How do you feel about coffee flavored foods and drinks?

Brad:
I like it. I like coffee. I like coffee, but sometimes when you have it so much, you don't really taste the coffee anymore, but then if you have it in coffee cake or something like that, you kind of get the actual coffee taste again.

John:
You know, I am a coffee addict, but I just like plain black coffee. I don't like coffee cakes, coffee-

Brad:
Oh, dude, I love it.

John:
Coffee chocolate, coffee ice cream.

Brad:
Let me see.

John:
I didn't see anything about caffeine. I wouldn't be shocked to see if this had maybe like 60 to 100 milligrams of caffeine, but I didn't see anything on there.

Brad:
I mean, it says 750 milligrams of Colombian coffee. As far as what that breaks down to, if there's caffeine, I think that they would tell you. I think NutraBio would tell you if there's caffeine. So I would say there's probably not. I don't think so. I [inaudible 00:06:41] don't think so. Oh, wow, that smells very good.

John:
It does smell good.

Brad:
Oh, that might be it.

John:
That's crazy.

Brad:
That's really, really good.

John:
It's really thick and frothy. It's almost like drinking a cappuccino or something like that.

Brad:
That's number one for sure. I had no expectations for that one. That's really, really freaking good.

John:
So I'm going to say, best taste, best texture.

Brad:
Take it or leave it.

John:
Although in terms of favorites, it would probably be a close run up between those two, and that one would be my second or third place there.

Brad:
I would say first, definitely second, close third. This one, the texture and the taste were good. I got like no gritty out of that.

John:
You know what? See, I actually do plant proteins on a regular basis, but normally they're just so unappetizing and I just make them into a smoothie. And these are ones that I could definitely drink-

Brad:
With just water.

John:
As a protein shake.

Brad:
And I can't believe how incredibly thick it got. There was like a foam on the top.

John:
Especially [crosstalk 00:07:53] was like drinking a milkshake.

Brad:
I don't know what they could have done to get foam on the top like that.

John:
I wonder if it's the coffee.

Brad:
It must be, because I mean, I guess that's kind of what, it's going to be foamy in coffee. Yeah, that is fricking crazy. That is really, really good. That is the new number one best plant protein I've ever had.

John:
With people making protein pancakes, protein muffins, I could see this being a great addition for baking, as well.

Brad:
Yeah. And then I'm sure this is fully vegan. Yeah. Yeah, so not only is it just plant-based, I know sometimes there's a difference, but this is fully vegan. There's no animal products at all that I can tell of. So if you're looking for probably the cleanest possible plant protein you can get, it's definitely going to be NutraBio plant protein.

Brad:
I think that the better amino acid breakdown might be Nutrex, because they have four sources of plant protein. This only has two. It's not necessarily the worst thing. You're still going to get benefits out of it. But as far as effectiveness, the Nutrex might be better. As far as taste-wise, these knocked it out of the park for sure.

John:
With the plant-based proteins, is it more important to have a more diverse range of protein sources than with, you know, obviously we've got Hexapro and things like that, but a whey kind of has all the aminos, whereas with plant-based proteins, is it better to have multiple sources?

Brad:
Yeah. Because if you have an animal protein, it breaks down into a really good ratio of amino acids that are going to be ideal for muscle growth. You get a lot of leucine, you get a lot of the branch chains, and a lot of the essential amino acids. With plant proteins, some of them you do get a full breakdown. You just don't get a lot. And then the ones that you do get a lot of certain ones, you don't get a full breakdown. So it makes sense to get a variety of different ones.

Brad:
I'm assuming that's why they put two different ones in here. I think brown rice ... Sorry, I'm all congested. I think brown rice might be one that breaks down into a lot, but pea is the most common one. And pea isn't the greatest by itself. But if you have multiple sources on top of pea, you cover more of your bases.

John:
Okay. Good to know. Good to know.

Brad:
Yeah. Yeah, this is awesome. So we're going to have these probably the week of February 5th. We're going to order them. We'll definitely have them in. I'll pre-order. Maybe we can actually do a pre-order for the site.

John:
Are these two pounders, five pounders?

Brad:
I don't know. I think two pound.

John:
Two pounders?

Brad:
Yeah.

John:
And what do you think, can we do a free shaker with every tub for the first week?

Brad:
Yeah. So from, we'll have to figure out whatever day it actually comes in, we'll send out an email. So as soon as we get them, we'll send out an email. And from the day that the email goes out ... We can do this, right?

John:
Yeah.

Brad:
We can send stuff out? Okay. So as soon as the email goes out, I don't want to talk like I'm just making stuff up, so the day that we get it, we'll send out an email and say, hey, it's in. From a week after that, if you buy a tub, we'll throw in a shaker for free. Yeah, I think that's it. Two thumbs up. I liked it.

John:
With [inaudible 00:10:53].

Brad:
Is this the best plant protein you've had, or do you know of one that you like better?

John:
I thought Nutrex was pretty good. I'm keen to try the oatmeal one, just because I drink oatmeal proteins on a regular basis and that just tends to be really creamy. But I would say this is in the top one or two, definitely.

Brad:
For sure. For sure. So good job, NutraBio. We'll see you in the next video.

John:
Later, guys.

Brad:
Thanks. Yeah, I can't believe that coffee one, dude.

John:
Yeah, that was crazy, how that frothed up like that.

Brad:
Yeah.
