John:
And me and Jordan are going to take this one away since you're spreading misinformation about veganism, telling people that vegans eat eggs.

Maddie:
Haha, Thank you.

John:
But yeah, so it seems like plant-based proteins are becoming a lot more popular.

Jordan:
Yep.

John:
Do you like plant-based proteins?

Maddie:
Yeah.

John:
Yeah. Have you tried any of these ones?Β 

Maddie:
I don't think any of these.

John:
Now, I would say a couple years ago, plant-based proteins were pretty gross, right?

Jordan:
Yeah.

John:
Very chalky.

Jordan:
That grainy-

John:
Terrible flavor.

Jordan:
Yep.

John:
And I feel like they've come a long way, and I feel like there's some pretty good tasting ones on the market, and it seems like more and more people are looking for vegan-friendly protein options or vegetarian-friendly proteins. And so we've put together what we thought were our top five plant-based proteins. All of these, with the exception of one, you can find on our site, bestpricenutrition.com. This is actually one of my favorites. Although, unfortunately, this is a brick and mortar exclusive. If you are in the Chicagoland area, you can get it at either Capitol Nutrition or supplement warehouse stores, but one of you want to kick it off? You want to pick one to tell them a little bit about?

Jordan:
Yeah, so one that we've carried for a really long time is the Nutrex plant-based protein. It's four-sourced plant-based, so you're getting things like sunflower protein, pea protein, brown rice protein, as well as pumpkin seed. And if you don't know anything about pumpkin seed, it's very high in Omega-3, so really good for joint health, heart health and brain health. We got different ones like Nutrabio. Nutrabio is one of our bigger brands that we do carry in the store, or Green Beret by Redcon1. My personal favorite, I would say, is probably the Nutrabio one. They have a German chocolate cake flavor, and I'm not usually big on plant-based proteins because of that grainy taste, but that one is definitely delicious, one that I can regularly drink.

John:
With this one, I had pulled out... Have you tried any of the different flavors of this?

Jordan:
Yeah, I've had the German chocolate cake, and then they have that, I think it's a vanilla caramel.

John:
Okay.

Jordan:
That one's really good.

John:
This one with the pumpkin seed, that's also good for what? Prostate and testosterone levels too.

Jordan:
Yeah, absolutely.

John:
I haven't tried the strawberries and cream. I tried the German chocolate cake and I think it even had little pieces of coconut or something in there.

Jordan:
It does, yeah.

John:
That was good. And this was one of the earlier... I think this was one of the first plant-based proteins that was like, "Wow, that's actually tasty." This one, you probably know better than me. So we got a mochaccino mousse cake.

Jordan:
Yeah.

John:
This is kind of coffeeish, right?

Jordan:
Yeah.Β 

John:
And if I remember correctly, there's almost a frothiness to it.

Jordan:
Yes.

John:
It's almost like drinking a coffee beverage. What other flavors does this come in? This is the-

Jordan:
They have a German chocolate as well.

John:
Do they? Yeah, they have a German chocolate cake too. This one's got 20 grams of protein. What do we got as far as protein sources here? This one is... Oh, you know what? I forgot. This one's actually got, I think, some caffeine in there too, because it's got Columbian coffee in here.

Jordan:
Yeah.

John:
Protein sources. How come this doesn't tell me here?

Jordan:
So it should say in the ingredients.

John:
You want to see if you can... And the reason that people want varied protein sources instead of just a pea protein, is for the full amino acid profile?

Jordan:
Yeah, so you're getting pea protein in this one and then whole brown rice protein, so they're using two different sources of vegan, plant-based protein.

John:
Okay. And then, the Redcon1, this one's been out for a while.

Jordan:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

John:
I think this was one of the first ones we've seen from a sports nutrition brand and not a vegan brand.

Jordan:
Yeah.

John:
Come out. Have you tried any of this?

Jordan:
I have not tried the Green Beret.

John:
So I know we got a vanilla chocolate. I'm not sure what the other flavor is.

Jordan:
Let's see. There's vanilla, there's chocolate, there's a peanut butter, and then there's a strawberry.

John:
And this one, we got pea protein and mung bean protein, so we've got two protein sources. We also got MCTs in here. 120 calories, 20 grams of protein.

Jordan:
Mm-hmm (affirmative).

John:
I think I tried this way, way back when it first came out, and it was pretty tasty.

Jordan:
Yeah. No, that one's definitely good.

John:
And then Blessed. Blessed is what? A spinoff of EHP Labs?

Jordan:
Yep.

John:
They're really hot, really trending on social media.

Jordan:
Yeah.

John:
They got a lot of cute influencers and they just do a good job with the brand and everything like that. Have you tried any of theirs?

Jordan:
I have tried. I have tried the... they have a chocolate peanut butter cup, and that one's actually pretty tasty.

John:
So when this first rolled out, they sent us, I think, pretty much every single flavor. My favorite... I grabbed this one. My favorite is the chocolate coconut. Really, the only one I didn't like was the vanilla chai.

Jordan:
Oh, yeah.

John:
And I think the chocolate peanut butter cup and the cookie crunch are two new flavors, so I haven't tried those either. Have you tried these guys? No? Yeah, this is just pea protein, right? Yeah, this one is just pea protein, so you're only getting a single source. It is a good product. It tastes good. If you're looking to get all your aminos, what other benefits come with multiple sources of plant protein?

Jordan:
So a lot of... The thing about plant-based proteins is sometimes, you don't get all the essential amino acids.

John:
Okay.

Jordan:
So it's always... What I always recommend is finding a plant-based protein that uses multiple sources so you get to fully complete that amino acid profile, something like the... Whatchamacallit? The Nutrex or something like a NutraBio or even in the stores, the Black Magic one, because you're getting pea protein, brown rice protein, fava bean, a mung bean. You're getting four different sources, so you're going to get enough protein to basically complete that amino acid profile.

John:
And did I ask you, have you tried that one? Or no?

Jordan:
That one... This one I have not, the new Black Magic one. I actually had a few customers purchase it from me and have been really impressed with the flavoring of it.

John:
Do they have... They came out with a whey protein or protein, right?

Jordan:
Yeah, so that's what they came-

John:
Initially.

Jordan:
It's like a blended, so it's got your standard whey. It has your casing and egg protein, so three different sources in that one. That one's a really good protein too.

John:
And so, I haven't had a chance to try either, but yeah, both these look good, and I like how I had a variety of plant protein sources. So this is our pick for our top... What is it?
