Reviewing Joe Rogan's Flaming Joe Kill Cliff CBD Recovery Drink 🍍

Video Transcription

Brad:
How's it going, guys? This is Brad and John. We're using a GoPro today, which is why you can see half of the room. Today, we are going to go over... This isn't something that we are going to be selling online, but we wanted to do a review on it because we're seeling it in our brick and mortar stores. We think a lot of people might actually be interested in it. It's Kill Cliff, and it's the Joe Rogan version of the drink.

Brad:
I think everyone knows how Joe Rogan is. This is the Flaming Joe flavor. What is it Spicy Pineapple?

John:
Spicy Pineapple, yep.

Brad:
Yeah, have you had Kill Cliff's before?

John:
You know what, I've had the Orange Crush or Orange Cush was the first one I ever tried, and I think we got some of those in. I thought it was pretty tasty. When you told me about this one, I was super excited. I know we're both Joe Rogan fans, and this is kind of an interesting flavor as well.

Brad:
Yeah, yeah. I think just the fact that it's Joe Rogan alone will get a lot of people to buy it. I think he's the most watched show in history.

John:
Most watched podcast.

Brad:
Yeah.

John:
What I thought was kind of unique about this, this is a spicy flavor, and the only other spicy energy drink I can think of is the Monster Inferno Strawberry Jalapeno. Have you tried that one?

Brad:
I don't know if I did. Maybe I did.

John:
It was-

Brad:
Did you bring it in?

John:
I think I might gave you a little bit of it. It was unique. I would say the difference, and I've heard some people referring to this as Pineapple Jalapeno. And I don't think this is jalapeno. The Monster one actually had a fresh jalapeno taste to it, and this I feel like you get the heat of the capsaicin but there's not really a jalapeno taste to it.

Brad:
You get the tickle, not the taste. Then just to go through this. These are only 20 calories a can, and these are actually pretty good, not good for you I want to say. Actually, I would say they are pretty good for you. The sweetener is erythritol, which is a natural sweetener. There's vitamins in there. Taurine. Ginger root extract. There's green tea extract. Ginseng. There is caffeine and some vitamins. They use stevia, and there's hemp extract. So this is kind of like CBD drink. There's 25 milligrams of CBD.

John:
I was researching this a little bit last night. So similar to the Bang/VPX Stoked energy drink, this one has 125 milligrams of broad spectrum hemp, which yields 25 milligrams of CBD, same as the Stoked. And then I was curious, with a lot of the products we've tried and carry at Capitol Supplement Warehouse, you hear the term full spectrum CBD. I was curious what broad spectrum was. So I did a little bit of research last night. Full spectrum is all the cannabinoids, and they said broad spectrum is two out of the three. I know there's hundreds of cannabinoids. So I'm guessing there's three categories, and this is going to contain two out of the three categories of cannabinoids.

Brad:
Okay. I wonder what the exact reasoning for doing just some or the other are. [crosstalk 00:02:56]

John:
I wonder if it's flavor. I think maybe terpenes are kind of gross, so maybe they leave those off but you still get a more well-rounded dose of CBD. Then I don't know if you know about this, I couldn't find really anything about caffeine content. I thought I saw something from somebody's blog that said 25 milligrams-

Brad:
Of caffeine?

John:
... of caffeine.

Brad:
I saw something that said 150.

John:
Oh, did you really?

Brad:
You know what, there's a QR code on the side. I'm going to scan it and see if anything comes up.

John:
I thought 25 would be good because it says build more as a recovery drink than an energy drink. So I was thinking of it kind of as amino energy where you're exhausted from working out. You get a little boost, but you're not going to be-

Brad:
You're getting the aminos and everything.

John:
But you're not going to be wired from a ton of caffeine.

Brad:
It doesn't say the amount of caffeine. It does say some's in there. But it's actually kind of further down the list. It's after green tea extract. It's after ginseng meaning it's going to be less milligram wise than ginseng, than green tea. So you could kind of use that to base it off of regular doses of stuff. It is naturally color I believe. Let me verify that. I think it would have to be. Oh, they use hemp extract for colors.

John:
You know what I thought was kind of cool, I know people always like to see the... In reviews, people always like to see the color of the drinks for whatever reason. A lot of drinks are clear, but this actually kind of looks like pineapple juice.

Brad:
Yeah, it's 100% pineapple color. All right, tiny cheers.

John:
I'm just out of the dentist, so my taste is also a little bit off.

Brad:
No, it is really good. It's for sure pineapple, and then it's just the tickle in the throat. So I think you're spot on, I don't think it's jalapeno. I couldn't find earlier when I was looking at it what causes the spice.

John:
You know what's really interesting, I know sometimes pineapple juice can be either overly sweet or overly acidic. And I like that this, it's not syrupy, it's not too sweet. It's got a good flavor.

Brad:
It's like refreshing.

John:
That spiciness kind of really balances it out at the end.

Brad:
I have no idea what it could be. Sodium citrate. No, I don't think so. Monopotassium phosphate. I just don't know what it could be.

John:
You know you see like capsaicin or black pepper or something like that. There's nothing on there.

Brad:
It is good. I do like it.

John:
You know what, there's a lot of unique flavors where I'm like that's kind of cool but I wouldn't drink it a lot. I could see myself-

Brad:
For sure.

John:
... drinking this.

Brad:
Yeah. We tried one yesterday. That's why we're doing it again today because we liked it.

John:
We passed it around the office. I think pretty much everybody liked it. A few people maybe said, "I don't know if I'll drink it all the time, but it was good." My girlfriend was the one person I bought a can and brought it home yesterday. She said, "I hate it."

Brad:
Really?

John:
She hates everything now. Overall though everybody was big fans of this one.

Brad:
Yeah, yeah. I mean, I could see people not liking it for the tingle, but to me it's not spicy.

John:
It's really weird. It comes on very late. You're sitting there and sitting there and 30 seconds later you get a little bit of heat.

Brad:
Yeah, off the first sip when you try it, you don't get anything at all. Then after a little bit...

John:
I think you and I and pretty much everybody else has a really nice finish. You don't get any of that artificial sweetener taste, no chemical taste. It's very, very good.

Brad:
Yeah, and on the can it says 20 calories per can, B vitamins, no sugar, electrolytes, naturally flavored. I think the drink overall... And then for the macros, no fat, no protein, 15 carbs, but 13 of those are erythritol, so it's really like two carbs.

John:
I know yesterday we weren't sure whether this was a permanent thing or a limited edition. I guess it says right on the can limited edition.

Brad:
Oh, is it?

John:
I wouldn't be surprised... I think people are going to be fans of this. I know a lot of things that come out if they wind up being popular, they stick around. It obviously can't hurt these guys having Joe Rogan help with your market.

Brad:
No, it's going to be huge.

John:
I think this is going to wind up sticking around.

Brad:
Yeah, for sure. Or even maybe another flavor from him.

John:
Should we ask these guys if... I know we're only doing this in the brick and mortar stores, but should we ask the audience if they have any interest in exploring some of the rest of the Kill Cliff brand if there's some non-CBD stuff?

Brad:
Yeah, if you guys want us to bring in the non-CBD Kill Cliffs, let us know. We haven't really seen a huge demand for it, but we don't know unless we try or if we get feedback. So if you guys want us to carry it, we definitely will. We can. We just haven't really yet.

John:
I don't know a ton about their line, but I believe they have a non-CBD drink called Ignite that's more of an energy drink and then also a recovery drink that's non-CBD I believe.

Brad:
Okay. Yeah. It's good. So if you are in the Chicagoland area, we have Capitol Nutrition stores in Mokena, in Orland Park, and then if you go to Indiana right over the border in Schererville, we have a store there. Or if you want to go to a supplement warehouse, we have one in Bolingbrook, Illinois, which is where we're at right now, or if you're up in the Milwaukee area, there's a town right next to Milwaukee called West Allis. We have a supplement warehouse there as well. So go to any of those stores if you want to try one of these out, and you can pick one up. Everyone's going to have it today.

John:
If they come in and arm wrestle and beat you, can they get a can?

Brad:
They probably will beat me, so no. We did have someone try to do 100 pushups. They came to the store one time, and he was like [inaudible 00:08:11] out. And he was with his buddies. Said, "Hey, if I do 100 pushups, can I get a free two pound protein?" And I was like, "Absolutely, dude. There's no way you can do it." He got up to I think it was like 60 or 70.

John:
That's pretty good.

Brad:
He was like my size dude. I was like, "Dude, that's incredibly impressive." But yeah, no. He didn't get it.

Brad:
Anyway, stop in one of the stores. If you can do 100 pushups, I'll give you a free two pound protein.

Brad:
All right. I think that's all I got.

John:
All I got too. Yeah, if you guys have tried the drink, let us know what you thought of it. Drop a comment down below.
