How Are These Different From Other Protein Bars?
Protein bars come in all shapes, sizes, and varieties these days. You don’t have to look hard to find high carb ones, low carb ones, high protein, high fat, gluten free, or low carb. However, most bars have that cardboard taste, cost too much, and leave more to be desired. The last few years, Quest Nutrition has been at the top with their Quest Bars, providing a filling protein bar with great taste to help build muscle. Now, ISS Research has noted what Quest has accomplished and brought forth the even better Oh Yeah! One Bar. This bar isn’t just a candy bar with protein added to it. They’ve taken the great macronutrient profile of Quest Bars and combined it with the amazing taste of their original Oh Yeah! Bar. And the name One Bar refers to the one gram of sugar!
Key Ingredients Rundown
Whey Protein Isolate - This form has the most available protein you can get, generally over 90% without any carbs, lactose, or fat. It is more purified than whey concentrate, and is more easily digestible because it is lactose free. It also has a high BCAA content.
Milk Protein Isolate - This contains whey and casein proteins, which places it between the digestion rate of the two. Whey digests very quickly while casein has a much slower release. This consists mostly of casein, giving the bars a rich texture.
Isomalto-oligosaccharides - These are a combination of short-chain carbohydrates that are able to resist digestion, meaning you won’t get any particularly valuable nutrients from them. However, that doesn’t mean they are without benefits. They are low glycemic, resist cavities and are a source of prebiotics. Prebiotics promote the growth of healthy bacteria in the gut, resulting in smooth digestion. This ingredient is also what is used to sweeten the bars without raising the amount of sugar.
Maltitol - This is a type of sugar alcohol that’s used as a replacement for sugar. It has 75-90% of the sweetness of sucrose, but with half the caloric count. This also doesn’t promote cavities just like IMO, and it can be found in a wide range of foods like chewing gum, sugar-free chocolate, and hard candies. You might experience the “cooling feeling” that some get when consuming sugar alcohols.
Glycerine - The last major sweetener in these bars is glycerine. Another common sugar alcohol used in the food industry. This has 27 calories per teaspoon and has a lower glycemic index than sucrose. It won’t make your blood sugar skyrocket or give you the bottom out that comes with regular candy bars containing sugar and high fructose corn syrup.
Oh Yeah! One Bars come in a variety of 11 different flavors! People have been saying that the lemon cake flavor is the best flavored protein bar out there! There’s plenty to choose from, not just the same old “chocolate peanut butter” that other nutrition bars offer.
Chocolate Birthday Cake
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough
Cookies and Creme
Mint Chocolate Chip
Peanut Butter Pie
White Chocolate Raspberry
- Pumpkin Pie

White Chocolate Raspberry vs Quest review by Diane on 6/24/2016
I was very impressed with the new One bar flavors: Birthday Cake, Almond Bliss, and to a lesser extend Chocolate Mint. However I am not as big of a fan of White Chocolate Raspberry. It it like a Raspberry flavored bar with White Chocolate coating, which is as described, however I found the Quest interpretation to be a lot better (more like a White Chocolate Raspberry cup cake).
If you have tried Quest and were looking for more intense flavoring, then the One bar should hit the spot, however I didn't like it as much.
Birthday Cake, and Almond Bliss are king, but this one is still pretty royal.*DISCLAIMER. Individual results may vary.
FLAVORS review by Lucia on 5/2/2016
OMG the BIRTHDAY CAKE flavor is UNREAL. I'm sure everyone has heard the rave about this flavor! The best tasting birthday cake bar out there, for sure! The peanut butter one and the cookies and cream one and lemon pie are also in my top ranks, however, I really didn't like the raspberry white chocolate. I also really enjoyed the crunchy whey protein crispies inside the bar, making it the perfect on-the-go bar.*DISCLAIMER. Individual results may vary.
Chocolate Mint vs Quest review by Diane on 4/30/2016
This morning I opened up a Chocolate Mint One bar. A simple description is that it is a spearmint flavoured bar with a chocolate coating. If that sounds good to you then you won't be disappointed (I wasn't).
Previously I have had a Quest bar, and comparing to the mint flavour this one is quite different.
Quest has nice mint chunks, but the rest of the bar isn't quite as chocolatey as hoped. Still enjoyable, but not passing as a chocolate bar. The One bar doesn't have any chunks of any kind, but the flavours are stronger and distinct. I like both, but I would suggest it would depend on my mood.*DISCLAIMER. Individual results may vary.
Almond Bliss has actual whole almonds! review by Diane on 4/29/2016
I was really surprised to open up my first Almond Bliss bar and find real whole almonds coating the top! A real step up from the chunks a lot of bars have (that, while nice, lets face it, they often aren't real chunky). The centre of the bar is quite coconutty, making the whole thing great.
In Australia we have a bar called 'Bounty' which this is really similar to. I've seen pictures of Almond Joy bars as well, which I guess this would be a lot like.
I was really surprised. I expected something similar to Quest Coconut Cashew and was really impressed by this. I love it.*DISCLAIMER. Individual results may vary.
Birthday Cake has sprinkles! review by Diane on 4/16/2016
The birthday cake bar had sprinkles! Very tasty and soft bar, and was amazing from the first bite. It may be a bit sweet for some, but you would expect a flavor called 'Birthday Cake' to be sweet!
210 calories per bar, 21g of protein, I have never had a protein bar quite like it.I was thoroughly impressed, and I'm sure you will be too. Once I ate my first I thought I made a mistake not ordering a second box! I would recommend this to anyone on a diet with a sweet tooth.*DISCLAIMER. Individual results may vary.
Lemon review by Michael on 10/1/2015
Looking at the other reviews I expected the One bars to be the next big thing. Lemon was called the best flavour and I had high hopes since I love lemon stuff.
They were OK. But they weren't anything particularly special. I still prefer Quest bars. These were a great change, but I think in a market not oversaturated with Quest these wouldn't do so well. I think people rate them so highly because they are different. They are good, but I wouldn't crave them.*DISCLAIMER. Individual results may vary.
Not bad. review by Bubba on 9/11/2015
Not a bad bar. I had the opportunity to give the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough flavor a go and i liked it a lot. Had a great texture not your usual health bar pasty consistency thing going on. The bar has a good amount of protein so that helped me meet my protein needs while also having a little snack. It is not loaded with a bunch of sugars and garbage which is great. The price is typical high quality protein bar cost.*DISCLAIMER. Individual results may vary.
Amazing protein bar review by Christopher on 7/17/2015
Oh yeah one bar is so good. I am used to the soybean type crisps in protein bars, but these do not contain soy and has a protein blend. It contains little to no sugar and contains 22 grams of protein. The best part of these bars is that they do not have that aftertaste some protein bars have due to artificial sweeteners. Def recommend these bars and is a must buy. My favorite is the peanut butter flavor.*DISCLAIMER. Individual results may vary.
