Dr. Oz Borage Oil for Hair & Nails
Borage Oil For Hair
Dr. Oz Show
On today's show, Dr. Oz recommended different product for women over 40. In one segment he talked about hair and how borage oil in the form of GLA could help.
Borage Oil contains a fatty acid that coats the hair and nails and keeps them shiny. For this supplement, Yolanda, an audience member, came up on stage. Dr Oz asked about her hair and she responded that she was wearing a wig, which was a good laugh. However, under the wig, she said that her gray hair was dry. Borage Oil doesn’t work overnight, so expect it to take some time.
As we age our skin and hair doesn’t hold the moisture like it used to. Dr. Oz recommends borage oil for skin and hair. Borage oil contains GLA, and the borage gets into the hair and coats the hair. Want healthy skin, hair and nails? Try taking the essential fatty acid gamma linolenic acid (GLA). This essential fatty acid offers a wide range of benefits, from acting as an effective anti-inflammatory agent (with none of the side effects of anti-inflammatory drugs) to promoting the healthy growth of skin, hair and nails. GLA can also be used effectively for other conditions such as brittle nails and hair, arthritis, autoimmune disorders, and premenstrual syndrome. Unfortunately, GLA is hard to come by in the diet, so supplements may be necessary. Three good and natural sources are evening primrose oil, black currant oil and borage oil.

Do not expect immediate results when taking GLA: it takes six to eight weeks to see changes after adding GLA to the diet. Oz recommends 500 mg a day of borage oil.
Borage Oil comes from its bristly stems to its blue star-shaped flowers. All parts of the borage plant have been used for centuries for its healing properties and as a flavoring for foods. Borage Oil helps reduce the aches and pains of rheumatoid arthritis. It also helps relieve the discomforts of PMS, endometriosis, and fibrocystic breasts. It helps reduce the symptoms of eczema and psoriasis. Sometimes skin disorders develop when the body has problems converting dietary fats into GLA. GLA helps revitalize the skin by quieting inflammation and causing blood vessels to contract.
Borage Oil helps clear up acne and rosacea and alleviate inflammation associated with lupus. It prevents nerve damage due to diabetes and helps ease cough and soothe throat disorders. It helps reduce stress and high blood pressure and by relieving tension, it helps make it easier for men to perform normal tasks. The rich stores of essential fatty acids in borage oil not only prevent nails from cracking but also help to keep them generally healthy. In addition, the essential fatty acids nourish the scalp, making the supplement potentially valuable in treating a variety of hair problems.
